MASTER OF SCIENCE IN PHARMACOLOGY AND TOXICOLOGY

Duration of Studies: Two years (four semesters)

Vision: With the increasing need for professionals in drug development and research on local herbal products, this program aims to train more pharmacologists, particularly in developing countries like Cameroon. EXHIST’s Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics is committed to filling this gap, producing graduates who will contribute to improving healthcare through drug- and toxin-related research both locally and globally.

Objectives: The MSc in Pharmacology provides students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to integrate post-genomic molecular biology with drug discovery and physiological function.

Specific Objectives:

  • Produce graduates capable of functioning as teachers or consultants in hospitals and pharmaceutical establishments.
  • Develop creativity, leadership, and initiative.
  • Enhance critical analysis and sound judgment in interpreting scientific data.
  • Foster research skills, particularly in advancing local medicinal product development.

Programme Learning Outcomes:

  • Produce competent pharmacologists and toxicologists.
  • Advance drug research within the country.
  • Train future educators in Pharmacology.
  • Contribute to community development through advanced therapeutic research.

Admission Requirements: A second class honours lower division bachelor’s degree or 'licence' with "Assez Bien" in biomedical sciences, biochemistry, chemistry, medical laboratory sciences, microbiology, parasitology, or nursing. Remedial undergraduate courses may be required, not exceeding 18 credits. Relevant experience is an advantage. A selection test or interview may also be conducted.

Graduation Requirements: Students must earn at least 120 credits, complete a research project, and defend a thesis under the prescribed conditions. Additional post-graduate requirements set by the senate may also apply.
