Degree to be obtained: Master of Midwifery Science (MMSc)
Duration: Two Academic years (Four Semesters)
Vision: The vision is to ensure trainees provide care that includes preventive measures, detection of abnormal conditions in mother and child, referral for medical assistance, and execution of emergency measures where medical help is unavailable. This is achieved by ensuring that good skills are developed to adequately supervise, care for, and advise women before pregnancy, during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. It is of adequate importance to conduct deliveries on one’s own responsibility and to care for the newborn and infant up to at least five years.
Objectives: At the end of the programme, the candidates must be able to assist the individual, family, and community in maintaining, promoting, and restoring health in everything that relates to childbirth using preventive, health promotion, curative, and rehabilitation health care strategies. Health counseling and education to individuals, families, and the community will also be part of the roles. The individual should be able to provide antenatal education, preparation for parenthood, and handle aspects of gynecology, family planning, childcare, and pediatric nursing functions.
Admission Requirements: Bachelor's in Nursing and Midwifery, and the University of Bamenda admission requirements. Bachelors of Nursing or Midwifery, Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Midwifery, B.Tech Nursing or Midwifery, or other equivalent degrees with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a scale of 4.
Graduation Requirements: All aspects of the programme are compulsory. The total number of credits to be earned is 120, with a total of 2360 learning and contact hours.
Employment opportunities: Public and private Maternal and Child Health Centers, community-based health facilities, faith-based health facilities, self-reliant projects, and teaching at higher levels.
